Isn’t it time for a Disruptor Brand in Leadership Development?
The other day, a potential client got in touch to ask about Elephant Leadership Camps.
She hadn’t read the website.
Hadn’t seen the brochure.
And so she had questions.
Within a few minutes, something struck me:
Isn’t it remarkable how much of the professional development industry still works the same way it did 20 or 30 years ago?
People still expect the same… but actually want something different.
And that's where Elephant Leadership Camps comes in.
Her first question to me was:
“Do you also do in-person or residential training?”
She explained: “I’ve been pushed back into the office full-time, and I just want something that doesn’t feel like more corporate process… and isn't more office time, or more screen time.”
She was pleased to hear we only do in-person, residential, human-to-human training.
No virtual delivery. No online modules. No staring at screens.
That pleased her.
Next she asked:
“Do you run anything suitable for someone like me?”
She was a high-potential, early-career manager.
I explained that while our Camps work at all levels, they’re particularly powerful at turning potential into credibility… and talent into gravitas.
All levels mix together at Camp, I added, and that’s part of the point.
She was relieved.
“I was worried it would all be aimed at senior executives" she said, and was glad we don’t only cater for the top tier.
Then she asked:
“What happens after Camp? Do I have to sit down with my manager and go through how I did?”
We can do that if requested, I said, but we don’t default to it.
Because Camp is about your growth, not a sanitised, corporate-approved version of it filtered through someone else’s lens.
She nodded and smiled.
She was relieved we don’t turn development into another reporting exercise.
Next she asked:
“Do we actually get to ‘do’ anything?”
She admitted she was expecting another lecture-room experience.
I explained:
No lectures. Very little theory.
No beige hotel rooms. No awkward breakout sessions.
Our model is experiential, physical, immersive, and real.
We run Camps in forest settings, with real challenges, real decisions, and real consequences.
By this point she was laughing.
She was pleased we don’t do the traditional conference room model.
And finally, the question I didn’t expect:
“What do I actually take away physically? Something I can put on my desk when I get back to work?”
Not a virtual certificate that disappears into an overfilled inbox.
Not a workbook that gets filed away and never opened.
Not a slide deck sent over “for reference” and never looked at again.
She wanted something tangible.
Something real.
Something to be proud of.
So I told her about our framed certificates.
And our Gold Award trophy — for the individual who travels the greatest distance on their leadership journey.
She paused.
I was surprised how much that all mattered to her.
Then she said:
“Wow… you’re different. No one else does professional training like that.”
“That’s the idea,” I said.
Because here’s the bigger point.
Almost every industry has been reimagined in recent years.
The internet changed all communication.
Apps changed all buying behaviour.
AI is now changing all capability.
Entire sectors have been rebuilt around the user.
And yet, much of professional development still looks remarkably similar:
Slide decks.
Conference rooms.
Soporific lectures.
Tick-box learning.
Predictable outcomes.
Programmes that feel far more like process than progress.
And no — moving everything online isn’t disruption. It’s just distribution.
Taking the same material and simply delivering to more people, all of them further away from the human interaction where real learning actually happens, is not valuable change.
Real change in professional development is overdue.
And it requires something simple, but uncomfortable:
A rethink.
So we’ve been rethinking:
where learning happens
how it feels
what people take away
and how one creates lasting change
At Elephant Leadership Camps, we’re not just improving leadership development.
We’re challenging the assumptions it’s built on.
Because leadership development doesn’t need another course, platform, or app.
It needs a rethink.
An Elephant-sized rethink.
If you’re ready to step out of the office…
and into something different…
